It was god-knows-which year, maybe 2222, maybe last year. Instead of icebergs, oil slicks drifted across the ocean, the planet’s central heating was directly connected to forest fires, the noise of cities echoed off steep garbage slopes, multiplied and muffled lone voices. Sometimes, when the smog and dust scattered, dreamers sat and peeped through a hole in the ozone layer into the sky, dreaming of new worlds, sipping through the straws the last drops of Earth’s power. Mankind was choking on its own greed.

Do you know how a person feels standing over an abyss? Not when they can take a step forward, but when they realize that the fall is inevitable? This song is about the tragedy of a person who becomes a monster against their will. Every time she looks in the mirror and sees that, she turns into a monster. Her life will never be normal again, she will never be herself again. Everything that was dear, hated, or even what she was indifferent to — everything will disappear.

When? Soon.

For a long time? Forever …

Everyone has their own monster. Someone is afraid of losing beauty, memory, wealth.

But perhaps the worst thing is to lose yourself.

“Mara” is based on a Ukrainian folk song about the tragic fate of a young girl, whom her parents married off at a young age, and now she is forced to hide her pain from others. We developed the plot and turned it into the story of the abuser murder. The track does not call for violence.

On the contrary, it shows what domestic violence and the absence of help for victims of bullying can lead to.
